Regional Swim Clinics is focused on training new and current aquatic professionals in Swim Australia Teaching courses on the East coast and inland Queensland from Hervey Bay to Townsville while promoting and advocating for water safety, swimming skills and coaching skills for the people of regional and rural Australia.

Through her courses Katrina has a gift for empowering people with confidence and helping them embrace what makes them unique and how they can share the water safety skills with their community. Katrina enjoys bringing aquatic professionals together to provide support and education. Through her courses Katrina strives to connect with each community she is involved with and make a positive impact for all.

Plan

How do you begin your journey as a Swim Teacher?

  1. Enrol in a Swim Australia course. You can find a course near you or request a course via the SCTA course calendar.
  2. Read and complete the online modules and assessment questions before your workshop where possible.
  3. Attend your face-to-face 1-day practical induction.
  4. Complete on the job training under the supervision and direction of a qualified swim teacher.
  5. Once you have progressed through you on the job training a competency assessment is completed to determine if you have met the required standard to work independently.
  6. Have a current CPR qualification.
  7. When the competency assessment is completed, and you are competent all assessments are uploaded and assessed.
  8. When your assessments are assessed as complete and correct you will be emailed your qualification certificate.

Abilities

During the face-to-face practical induction, you will be required to:

  • Complete safe entries and exits in and out of the water.
  • Swim 12.5m of the following strokes to the best of your ability: Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly, Sidestroke and Survival Backstroke.
  • Complete a 12.5m swim and simulated rescue of another person.
  • Complete a 10 min lesson with the other course participants as you students.

You do not need to be an Olympic level swimmer to complete this course.
